Forex entry ranges, triggers and signal expiry
Resolve a fictional entry range under a predeclared policy, retaining expired and unfilled instructions.

A range is not a retrospective choice of the best entry
An entry range needs a rule for how it becomes actionable. Does the buyer use first observed eligible price, a particular limit, a confirmation event or a reference window? Preserve that choice before examining the subsequent path. Picking whichever level yields the nicest chart result after the exit is known creates a different, hindsight-selected population.
A provider's historical research convention can differ from an actual subscriber fill. Both can be retained if each is labelled and applied consistently. Do not rename a best hypothetical research fill as a broker operation, and do not silently change a frozen source convention when expanding a review.
Retain triggers and invalidation as separate events
A statement to buy above a level can depend on crossing, closing or another explicitly defined event. A candle touching the level need not satisfy a close-based trigger. The first eligible observation, requested order and venue acceptance are separate objects. If the trigger definition is absent, the result of that particular instruction remains unresolved.
An instruction can be cancelled before triggering. Preserve the cancellation version and its observation time rather than deleting the original as if it never existed. Changes to entry or stop rules require an amendment record and cannot be pushed back into the original message.
Expiry requires a full date and clock basis
Write the original timezone, source time, receipt time and validity boundary. An instruction that expires at a session boundary needs the actual dated definition, not a perpetual label such as London close. Equal-to-boundary behaviour must be stated. This guide's invented case uses expiry-inclusive validity only to make the demonstration reproducible.
Late receipt can leave a legitimate source instruction unusable for a follower. That is an operational observation, not necessarily a source trading loss. Retain it in the expected inventory and explain why it did not generate an order. Do not score an expired instruction as profitable because the later price happened to move in its direction.
Score the policy actually examined
Keep original setups, actionable instructions and actual orders as three reconciled populations. Unfilled, expired and cancelled cases remain named states. Changing the entry policy creates a new evaluation and should not be introduced only for losing calls. A consumer can decline a product with unclear instructions without inventing how it would have traded.
A useful field test records the selected product, consecutive observation window, predeclared action rule and missing-data policy. This edition supplies the design and the completed hypothetical example only; it has not executed that test in a paid room or broker account.
Completed fictional case
Fictional rule: first observed ask inside 1.1000-1.1005, valid through 10:05:00 UTC on the declared date. At 10:02:00 the observed ask is 1.1004, so the reference policy selects 1.1004, not the later 1.1000. A second setup first arrives at 10:05:01 and is outside the rule. A third is cancelled at 10:01 before an eligible observation. The inventory contains three setups: one eligible reference, one expired and one cancelled; no actual fills are established.
| Record | Represented finding | Boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Within range | One eligible reference | First observed eligible ask |
| One second late | Expired | Not retrospectively rescued |
| Cancelled before trigger | Cancelled | Original remains in inventory |
