Forex sessions, UTC clocks and dated event boundaries

Keep session names, daylight-saving offsets and economic-event observations separate from actual executable prices.

Source reference, user evidence record and bounded conclusion
Keep the source, observation and conclusion as distinct objects.

A session label is not a timestamp

A room may label an instruction London, New York or Asian session. That label is not enough to reproduce eligibility. Preserve the full date, original timezone and timezone rule used by the publisher. Broker chart clocks can differ from the reader's local clock. A fixed offset pasted into every historical record can shift the interpretation around seasonal clock changes.

Convert to a common basis while retaining the original representation. The conversion needs the correct dated rule and should not rewrite the source time as though the publisher originally used UTC. If the original timezone is unidentified, preserve that uncertainty; a tidy converted timestamp would otherwise invent precision.

Separate event schedule from observed release

An economic calendar can supply a scheduled event time, but it does not establish the exact first observation at a subscriber, the released value or executable liquidity. Retain the originating calendar and the relevant release record for any actual assessment. The example here uses fictional clocks and makes no claim about an upcoming or historical release.

Predeclared event exclusions should be applied consistently across the expected population. Removing only losing events after seeing the outcomes changes the strategy being evaluated. An order rejection, missed alert or deliberate abstention should have its own recorded reason rather than being silently dropped from the day.

Inspect closure, expiry and reopening independently

A broker's product can have dated trading breaks and holiday conditions. A calendar saying a venue is open cannot guarantee available price or quantity. Keep requested order validity, actual operation state and first subsequent eligible observation separate. A reopening gap should not be bridged with an invented continuous fill.

A session-based maximum hold or expiry also needs an exact definition. Completed sessions and elapsed wall-clock time can be different measurements. Consumer examples should name the counting convention instead of borrowing a strategy rule from another product or changing it for a convenient outcome.

Finish with an auditable clock table

Keep source event, subscriber receipt, eligible quote and actual fill as separate dated events. Calculate intervals only between records on an established clock basis. Synchronisation error and timestamp granularity belong beside the subtraction; arithmetic cannot validate either. A notification received in time can still fail to produce a usable order.

When reviewing a room, assess whether the published schedule and retrospective recordings support the buyer's actual attendance. That can be useful educational value without any execution claim. The source-to-follower comparison requires matched instruction identity and clock records, not just a screenshot of a session banner.

Completed fictional case

Fictional clock case: one desk declares UTC+1 on the stated date and posts at 09:00 local; another declares UTC+2 and posts at 10:00 local. Both translate to 08:00 UTC under those declared offsets. A reader observes the first at 08:00:20 and a quote at 08:00:35: the intervals are 20 and 35 seconds. A thirty-second eligibility boundary excludes that quote. The offsets are assumptions, not a historical daylight-saving certification.
